Today my 86 year old mother-in-law had her first chemo treatment. We were all amazed that she felt up to going to my son’s family’s home for supper and the evening after having chemo today! Most Thursday nights my husband and I, my mother-in-law and my single sister-in-law go to my son’s family’s house for supper, but we didn’t think my mother-in-law would feel up to it tonight. It was good to see her there and seeming to enjoy herself. We had a good time talking and enjoying each other’s company. Also the prayer together at the end of the night and the extra hugs were special. My heart feels light tonight because of our special night and the joy and love of family. That is one blessing of difficult times, it sometimes makes us more willing to express our love for each other. Although sometimes for us caregivers who are in the situation and with the caregiving recipient all the time it can also wear the patience a little thin.
On Tuesday my husband and I went and bought a new printer. I do so much writing and often printing out, and our other printer was not working very well. I find great stress release and even purpose in my writing. My husband went along to shopping for this. We took his wheel chair for this. Otherwise it would have been too much for him.
On Wednesday we met with a lady who sort of “fell into our laps.” She helped us consolidate our IRAs in one place. This will make it easier for my business challenged mind whenever we start tapping into those funds. She is also is going to check resources for me, so I can have health insurance when our extended cobra runs out in April 2010. Hopefully she can find something for me, since otherwise I will have to go on an expensive state plan for a couple of years. The sticking point with me could be my preexisting condition of breast cancer in 2007 and 2008. It is such a burden lifted to have her looking for this for me. Also my husband can be on medicare by next January, so she will help us with supplemental insurance for him at that time. So many questions were answered and burdens lifted through her help. Thank You, Lord for Your leading!
Hurray!!! for all the answers that are coming your way. I’m enjoying a sigh of relief for you.
I’m so glad you enjoyed your Thursday night “sharing supper.” Something wonderful happens when hugs are simultaneously given and taken. It’s the perfect moment. I hope the weekend weather is rain- and coat-free.
