Where do you go when you want to get away and you can’t really get away?

Your own sanctuary—a personal paradise.

In our article, Making Room for Mom, we offer tips on how to protect your privacy when your care recipient moves in. One of our tips is to create your own personal paradise:

“Whether it be a spare bedroom or a corner in the basement, make your own get-away, complete with your favorite things (books, chocolate, candles, scrapbook, journal, music, TV, videos). When the going gets rough in the rest of the house, you can take a breather by yourself. I know one family caregiver who sat in her car when she needed time to herself. Another family caregiver found privacy in her bathroom with regular bubble baths.”

We’d love for you to give us a tour of your personal paradise (yep, even the one you create in your bathroom). Create a video of your own special space and share it on our YouTube channel.

We’ll share our favorites on Caregiving.com.

Have fun! And..action!

When we found this apartment, I immediately saw that it would be perfect for my Dad in every way. This did not make it unique though, as just about every place I looked at offered the same situation,

The deciding factor was the imagination room; a small nook, just off the living room and about 15 feet from what would be my Dad’s room. I new immediately this would be my sanctuary. I have my desk, computer, excercise equipment, books, everything to make it my place of peace (advice from Dr. Wayne Dyer).

I even have put up my very own Less Nessman Walls (remember WKRP).
