Entry

It’s a cook-free (and dirty dish-less!) Progressive Party.

Throughout the week of December 6, we stop by the blogs of family caregivers, dropping off holiday well-wishes and good cheer. To close out our party with a bang, two of blog party participants will join me today at Noon on Table Talk; listen to our live show here.

Because no party is complete without presents, we’ve got prizes! We’re giving away:

To be eligible to win any of the prizes, simply share a bit about yourself and your caregiving situation in our comments section after this post.

On Caregiving.com, six family caregivers share their days through their own blogs:

  • Derek cares for his parents
  • Gary cares for his mother
  • Sharon cares for her husband
  • Skye cares for her husband

Be sure to visit the blogs other family caregivers participating in our blog party; when you visit other blogs be sure to share something about yourself as well as cheer and good wishes:

Would you like to join us? Visit here for details; we’d love to have you with us!

Merry Christmas and Happy Christmas Party :) Thank you for the sweet invitation and the fun it entails. :) As a Sandwich Generation senior home care giver to my dad who dealt with Parkinson’s Disease for 15 years before going home to heaven five years ago, as well as my sweet senior mom who now lives with me AND a grandmother of over a dozen, including some with special needs, I’ve spent years working on the art of juggling! It’s challenging, interesting, educational, and never boring, and I love writing about it and encouraging fellow care giving and grandparent compadres at SandwichINK.

You’ll be very proud of me. I do have some decorations over there including a Smilebox card complete with one of my favorite Christmas Carols and some winter and Christmas fun pictures. :) I LOVE your Christmas lights! How did you do them? I would love a set at my site but I’m so short on time that anything that takes more than 2 minutes to learn I put in my future TO-DO box that should probably be named the NEVER-WILL-Do box :) :) :) Then again, you never know…

Have a wonderful party and a joy-filled Christmas and New Year. :)

Hi There…Happy Holidays everyone! My name is Donna Ryan and I care for my 91 year old mother. In all honesty of all the wonderful people I have met in here I have the easiest job of all these remarkable caregivers. Their stories are so touching to me and it really is a priviledge to read their life stories and their day to day activiities. I cared for my Aunt in 2006. I blogged about that a couple weeks ago so I will not put all the details on here. She was 84 and her house was sold and we opened our home to her and coincidentally she had leukemia for which we found out a few weeks after her moving in. She was my joy and passed away five months after moving in. Mom had a heart attack november 2007…she was almost 89..she will be turning 91 in three weeks. She shocked us with this because up until that point she was so healthy. She did have an eyestroke in 2006 but she was doing fine on her own..relatively speaking…I would go over and clean, and grocery shop but she did everything else pretty much herself. After the heart attack however we felt it time that she should move in with us. Aside from odds and ends she really does take care of herself…Some days are difficult but I try hard to be patient and remind myself she is 91 afterall. Patience when learned is a sign of maturity and Im trying very hard. I however again cannot express how to me my job is not as emotionally draining as so many of my friends in here. I applaud each and everyone of the people Ive met so far,,,Sharon, Lilly, Derek, Garry, Jackie, oh my goodness Im sorry Im trying remember everyone and I dont mean to leave anyone out….I mean all of you really!!….Happy Holidays to everyone…your all my inspirations each and every day…..

  3. Greetings everyone! I am Linda Muckerheide, wife and caregiver to 65 year old Jim, who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma about 15 months ago. After three false starts, we seem to be zeroing in on a stem cell transplant one week from today. Jim is exhausted, having taken 2 weeks to harvest just about 2,000,000 stem cells (they usually try to collect 10 million), He will be in the hospital over Christmas and New Year’s but our hopes for improved quality of life ride on this transplant pretty heavily.

I feel a little overwhelmed and sad when I read how heavy other people’s illnesses and responsibilities weigh on them, and realize I am lucky Jim is fairly mobile, and agreeable, and willing to follow most of the direction the doctor gives him. We have five grandkids, one of whom lives here in our house with his mom, so Christmas will just need to go on for their sakes. Making cookies, decorating and restrained shopping keep my feet walking one in front of the other, and not trying to read too much into the future. Glad for the day!

Blessings to all of you reading. My blog is a little irreverent, because that’s how we get by. Nothing is very sacred, and we are both fine with that.

I discovered that this appears to be where the intros are done! Hello everyone, my name is Donna, I am the caregiver to my over 95 year old mom. In 2005, our house had a fire, which moved us next door to live with mom. At that point she still had some independence, but it was decreasing, so the timing was good to have us living with her to look after her. Did not fully realize the trek we were about to embark on at that point. Four years later and many blog entries, will tell you some of what I have experienced, and changes mom has gone through as well as myself. There are many entries done quickly because I have been writing since 2006, and posting them in different caregiver or writing sites, as well as putting them all together for a book.

I am 57, married 25 years, second marriage, I have 3 adult sons from my first, and my husband and I have an adult son as well. We are happy grandma and grandpa to 8 grandkids, the youngest is here with me now!

I hope you all will stop by and browse through my postings, leave a comment if you’d like, I’d love to hear from you and get to know everyone. I have been enjoying going to each of your sites and blogs and reading about you and your caregiving journey.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s to you all! Donna Webb

I guess I should have put my caregiving story here in the comments section to this blog of Denise. Anyone who does not know my caregiving story and would like to read it can click on Sharon’s blog at the caregiving.com site and then read “My Caregiving Story.”

Thanks for a very enjoyable Christmas party! :) I got to most, and will finish up visits over the next few days (I’m always running a bit behind because I’m always busy chasing the grandkids :) :) :) ) Merry Christmas!
