It’s Friday, so let’s share some funnies. What’s a humorous experience that’s happened to you in your caregiving role? It could be something that happened years ago or just yesterday, as long as today it makes you giggle. We’ll giggle with you.
Please share in our comments section.
And, we’ll give away a $25 Visa gift card to someone who shares a funny.

My friend Ethel used to always make me “pocket” an extra dessert for her to take up to her room after lunch. I don’t know how she stayed so thin eating all those cookies!
Another time her care center put on an Octoberfest celebration and she made me get up and do the chicken dance! I couldn’t remember how to do it, but the moves came back to me pretty quickly with all those people watching.
This isn’t related to caregiving, but I can’t resist (and I like to break my own guidelines). Anyhoo…
As many of you know, I work a “day job” and work on Caregiving.com on the side. So, yesterday, at my day job, I sent an email to employees.
The subject line read:
“Free H1N1 Flu Vaccine Available Next Week”
The first line of the email read:
“Company, in connection with Testing Co., offers you the opportunity to obtain the H1N1 flu vaccine at no cost.”
This morning, I received an email from an employee. The employee asked:
“Is there a charge?”
Ah, that made me laugh.
My mom moved in with us almost a year ago. Recently I was helping her in the bathroom. We both have our own facecloths on seprate side of the sink. As I was getting her dressed she casually told me that she had used my facecloth yesterday to clean her bottom. The color drained from my face and my eyes became like slinkys as I realized I had used that same facecloth to take off my eye make-up. I then calmly told her that she might not want to use mine any more because of the nasty make-up on it! From now on I will check my cloth to make sure it wasn’t used recently!!!!!
Hi Denise! OOHHHH, reading your story just made me groan and laugh. You are very diplomatic.
We all need to be aware of the nasty make-up. Hope today is a good one for you and your mom.
Oh, no! These are the little gems that relieve stress and put things in healthy perspective for all of us. Whenever I go over my mom’s to help with some handyman task — well, let’s just say they never would’ve picked me as a contender for the lead in the TV show “Home Improvement”!! I am all thumbs when it comes to that toolbelt stuff. When my mom and I get together to conspire to help each other in fixing or mending something at her house, we immediately become like Lucy and Viv trying to put in the shower themselves! I’ve been dealing with some urinary tract/prostate issues, and last week my mom and I were checking something in the cellar when she turned and knocked over one of those big push brooms with the long, heavy handle — and, you know it, it had just the right clearance and distance from me that as I turned, it fell towards me and the handle hit me right between my legs — I did a “Tim Conway,” and my mother and I went into hysterics! It’s these things that make you realize that not only are we care givers and experiencers just people, but in the end events are just — things. They can be dealt with always somehow, and even reflected upon afterwards with some modicum of humor. And, sometimes, push broom pain! Ouch!!
Years ago when my mother was alive, it snowed heavily. My friend and I picked up my tiny little mother (4’9″, never hit 100lbs) to take her to work. My friend had a HUGE four wheel drive truck that was a long way off the ground. When it was time for my mother to get out of the truck, she was very apprehensive of falling because it was so far down. I confidentally told her not to worry, I would catch her. Depending on her wonderful, capable daughter, she slid down to my arms and WENT RIGHT THROUGH THEM TO THE GROUND. I was mortified. She was very graceful and dignified and luckily, didn’t hurt herself. We laughed later about it and to this day I have to giggle every time I remember it.
