“Goals determine what you are going to be.” ~ Julius Irving
Today, on Your Caregiving Journey, Ellen Rogin, our wealthness expert, joined us for our monthly chat. We focused on setting and making goals and offered suggestions and ideas to help you use goals to create just what you want. (You can listen to our show via the player at the bottom of our post.)
Some suggestions to get you going with your goals:
Ellen also encouraged us to set a BHAG—Big Hairy Audacious Goal—in addition to our achievable goals we set. A BHAG is an achievement we want, but think is too big or too much to have.
Set one anyway. And, then tell us.
You may worry that if you tell your BHAG to family and friends they’ll tell you you’re nuts. Not us. Tell us; we want your BHAG to happen just as much as you.
Your BHAG may be that you’ll live in handicap-accessible home by year’s end. Or, you’ll find quality, affordable, caring help three days a week. Or, you’ll get the perfect part-time job. Or, you’ll finally launch that small business.
So, think outside the box, even with the constraints of caregiving. What one BHAG would you like to complete by the end of this year? And, remember, the sky’s the limit.
My BHAG: By the end of the year, I will be married to Mr. Right. !!
Yeah! You go girl!

I have my main BHAG and that is to be in our new home in the Delavan or Lake Geneva area, and my “professional” goal is to be able to assemble and head a support group for caregivers in this area.

Hi Donna–These are terrific. I’ll keep your goals in my heart, which I hope will make them your reality at years’ end.
I hope to have a workable ramp in place by the end of February for the condo which we are purchasing. I hope we are completly moved in by late Feb. My goal is to not become overwhelmed by the details. My goal is to make this new place a more sunny, roomy, and pleasant place for my husband and I. My dream is that my husband’s spirits will be lifted greatly at this new place in spite of the burdens of his disease.
I actually hope to have the wheel chair ramp in by the end of the first week of Feb.
My BHAG for this year is to make it possible to take my Father on some trips to areas and places he’s never seen or experienced before.
Starting small are some areas right here in Florida. The most audacious of all would be to take him to the Grand Canyon.
Hi William–What awesome goals!! You’ll have to keep us posted.–Denise
