It’s Friday, so let’s share some funnies. What’s a humorous experience that’s happened to you in your caregiving role? It could be something that happened years ago or just yesterday, as long as today it makes you giggle. We’ll giggle with you.
Please share in our comments section.
And, we’ll give away a $25 Visa gift card to someone who shares a funny. (Update: Congratulations to Donna, who won the $25 gift card!)

After 6 granddaughters we welcomed a grandson to our world 14 months ago. All of our grandkids accept and love their Grandpa with all their hearts. Our little grandson, william, however, is all boy. He is often fascinated by my husband’s wheelchair. He will crawl over by husband in his wheelchair, examine the workings of the wheels, and often give my husband a big grin.
My mother has become a little more serious over the past few months. Very few things make her smile. She also doesn’t want to move around very much. When she does move (generally to walk to the bathroom), our cat Zinnia somehow knows she is moving, runs to her livingroom, and immediately jumps on the seat of her walker. It makes me smile to see the two of them walking to the bathroom together!
I am delighted to learn of how Zinnia responds to your mother’s activity. We have 2 cats. I am Mom’s live-in caregiver for the past several years. She is 95 and for the most part has her wits about her. Benny the 2 yr old cat (we refer to him as the teenager) sleeps in her wheelchair at night. And she will “take him for walks ” in the house while he sleeps in her chair. He accompanies her to the bathroom or kitchen and hardly twitches an ear until the chair stops moving. Then he watches her. LOL.
Meanwhile, the older cat {16 yrs) follows them around at a sedate and nonchalant distance, never missing a beat, but always appearing to NOT be paying attention. They make us both laugh.
Hi Donna,
Sometimes pets can be the best medicine. They definitely keep us smiling. My dog Eli, has slept next to me (on the floor) for years. My mother has not been doing too well lately, she struggles with some “newness” in dementia. During the last month, he has picked her livingroom/bedroom to sleep in.
They know more than we realize and they are a bigger comfort to us than they realize. (:
I went to pick up my Mother-in-law from her Assisted Living facility. It was raining, so I pulled up under their canopy at the front doors to load her walker. While putting it in the trunk, she was helped up into the car by one of the staff. As I’m pulling out of the driveway I looked over to make sure her seat belt was fastened and found that it WASN’T HER!! Another resident had wandered up to the car and was helped in. I looked back to the canopy area where I saw my — quite befuddled — Mother-in-law standing there watching us!!

That is a really hilarious mixup. I was visiting a friend in assisted living when a strange woman came into the room and began to undress for bed. Much flustered and confined to HIS bed, my friend called out to her, MRS. SO and SO. This is MY room NOT yours. But she persisted until an aide came in response to his call button!
My mother experiences nightmares about three or four nights a week…we are used to them..she screams and cries…it was disturbing when she first moved in…when she wakes up she does not remember anything…
last week thanfully she must have been having a good dream as she screamed HAPPY NEW YEAR!! ALONG WITH HURRAY!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I jumped up from my sound sleep ..for a second I was questioning if I fell asleep before the ball dropped lol lol lol lol….
I was waiting for her to get up and look for the herring she eats every year for goodluck but she didnt do that lol
