When you look around, do you seem to see a mountain of incontinence supplies, an ocean of dirty laundry and a sea of sad faces?
Who knew a mountain, an ocean and a sea could provide such a depressing backdrop?
While we can’t change our circumstances, we can change our surroundings. We can change the scenery inside our houses.
Organize your caregiving supplies in attractive boxes. Add a fresh coat of paint to a room. Purchase new pictures for a wall. Place framed photos of your favorite people nearby. Bring home fresh flowers from the grocery store. Light scented candles.
A new look to your environment can add a feeling of comfort and calm.
A change of scenery may be just what the doctor ordered.

This is such a wonderful reminder. I think I am now beginning to understand how keeping things fresh or new, and different can really help boost spirits. Because we have moved a couple of times, I think I tended to equate moving, with things getting better, however all the challenges moved right along with me…(:
Making changes in the house have made positive changes for me. I love a lot of color in each room and have just convinced my husband that they do make a difference (so he continues to paint). Last year, we even painted the outside of the house–yellow (New England Yellow)! Putting things away for a bit (not as much to dust) and then bringing them out later is fun too. We recently put in a new kitchen sink. I was feeling guilty about it, but I spend most of my day in front of it, so it has more than paid for itself.(: Thank you for reminding me that changes to our surroundings do make a difference.
