“When making your choice in life, do not neglect to live.”
~ Dr. Samuel Johnson

Sometimes, it can feel that all you know is sadness. You feel sad for yourself, sad for your caree, sad for other family caregivers.

Today, for a few moments, sadness sits in the backseat. It’s Saturday, the day we turn our focus to knowing moments of happiness.

So, be sure to share with us: How will you be happy today?

(Editor’s Note: You can listen to today’s Table Talk via the player below. I talk about how to untrap yourself from the thought, “Because of caregiving, I can’t…”)

I spent the afternoon at a cancer survivor picnic put on yearly by the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center. It was beautiful day with good food, great weather, and an acknowledgement of cancer survivors. One lady present was a 50 year old cancer survivor! There was another person who had survived 30 some years, another 40 some years.

I even won a prize-four tickets to a Milwaukee Wave game. I am not sure how or when I will use them, but we will have to see. There was also included in the package two free pizza certificates to a favorite pizza place of ours and also a certificate for a free cake from Dairy Queen.

When I go to these survivor picnics I am so thankful to God that I am nearly a 3 year survivor of breast cancer(over 2 years post treatments.) God was with me every step, and He has also been with me every step through this whole caregiving ordeal. Why then do I ever let anything get me down?

I was reluctant to write my happy thought today because it is dedicated to my husband and I know so many of you have sick spouses or dads your caring for tomorrow. I miss my dad and father in law also and will silently pray for them tomorrow and I truly mean no disrespect in this happy segment. Fathers day truly is the one holiday my husband gets to sit back, relax and really enjoy the day. Because we both lost our dads we are not visiting anyone and will be home. Every single holiday Kevin either is driving in traffic picking people up, or taking them home, or lugging wheel chairs and canes…I mean literally every holiday. He is such a hard worker and is so dedicated to me and my family. While we have a nice home it is very small and after a long day he comes home to mom night after night…not to mention this is the second family member I took care of here. He opened our home … no questions asked…
so I am extremely happy he can relax and enjoy a day dedicated to him…Im happy I will be making him a roast turkey dinner, and yes, we have cake…We took Mom to a very nice icecream parlor way out on long island today…home made icecream…delicious…and we bought two containers to bring back home and enjoy tomorrow as well…
Im happy he can finally get to enjoy a holiday hassle free and that makes me so happy!!!!!
