How Will You Be Happy Today?

Posted by

It’s Saturday, the day we might typically save for chores—errand-running, grocery shopping, cleaning.

But, for us, Saturdays is about taking time for happiness. On Saturdays, we commit to finding a few moments to be in happiness.

So, today, how will you be happy?

Generally, I associate much of my Saturday happiness with duties outside of the normal caregiving duties. This morning the happiness came during them. I was on my hands and knees, cleaning up in my mother’s bedroom this morning, when who should come in, but our nearly blind kitty. Ella seldom socializes and often stays to herself. She came over and sat down next to me, and then began making motions as if to “cover up” what I was cleaning. Very simple, but generally I don’t feel happy or like smiling when I begin my day like that. Thank you Ella. She is a very sweet girl. (:

Oh, how sweet! Animals have a natural way of making people happy. I remember some of mom’s happiest moments, and mine, were when our dog jumped up on her bed and stayed there watching mom crochet. Mom laughed like crazy! Just having the dog on her bed made her happy, and when mom was happy I was happy!

    wow!!..Im a lucky girl this week…
Im happy to report that my son received the call he was waiting for and will be sworn into our police academy this coming Tuesday which also happens to be his 23rd birthday….
we are happy as he is happy

Im happy I stuck to my happiness challenge guns and declined an invite to a barbecue tomorrow on long island. I said I have to learn its fine to say no…it is going to be upper 90s here tomorrow and to be honest memorial day with the traffic and mom in the car was very hard for me…so I said no to this one…just dont want to have mom out in all of that…we will be home…I will make nice chicken and get watermelon and corn and all the works….and relax….

but mostly Im happy and proud to be living in this wonderful country of freedom…happy fourth of july weekend everyone….

I’m happy because my daughter took me out for lunch and I had salmon which I like a lot. Also, on the way, we heard firecrackers, people yelling etc., and I said, “Aren’t we out of the Cup? Why are people yelling?” In the restaurant I found out that Germany was beating Argentina and we were cheering for Germany against Brazil’s arch-enemy ‘Argentina’ – ‘los hermanos’. It made me laugh to hear people at the next table, “Adios Maradona, Adios Dieguito”. And when the TV showed a re-run of the German goals, they played a sad (is that an oxymoron?) tango, which also made me laugh!

I am happy today to have had a very relaxing day after the busyness of this past week. After helping my husband to the bathroom at 5:00 A.M. I crawled back into bed and stayed there until around 8:00 A.M. That is unheard of for me, but it was wonderful.

Then I had my devotions, got a few groceries later, and did a few other necessary things. Most the day I have been trying to relax, however. I did some reading and just tried to take it a little slower today.

I am happy that I got out and played handball and frisbee with my son this afternoon, and that the three of us just got back from a leisurely walk. I am happy that I am focusing on my goal to replace suggestions with compliments, even if sometimes I stop myself mid suggestion! :)
