How… Will You Be Stronger?

Posted by
|

We often talk about a shortcoming that we want to improve or change. We may feel impatient, so work to gain more patience. We may feel we rush too much through our day, so want to slow down. We may feel we are quick to criticize, so commit to focusing on holding our tongue.

Certainly, we can gain by working on our weaknesses.

What if, though, we looked at our strengths and said: This is working really well for me. And, thinking about this strength will be my priority.

For instance, perhaps you have an incredible ability to find solutions. So, you focus on just that. Or, you have an uncanny ability to wake up every morning with hope. So, that’s where your mind stays–on how hopeful you are. Or, maybe you can manage a budget in such a way that the numbers look like a bouquet of flowers—your budget is simply beautiful. So, that’s what you remember—a balanced budget.

So… What’s your strength? And, more importantly, how will you keep your focus today on that strength?

Easy one for me to answer today….
My sense of humor…Laughter….I have an incredible ability to laugh during the hardest situations..Sometimes people look at me like Im a tad inappropriate now and then…it however is how I deal….Im learning each day to go with the flow..face what you have to…and laugh every single day…
and if anyone laughed at something I said….an added bonus for me….
I try to do all I can, as often as I can, for as many people as I can…myself included….but laughter is definately part of the recipe..
Now if any of you are good at making bouquets out of your budget send those tips to me PLEASE lol….
I have lots of work to do in other areas……but laughter is the key for me….

Organization is definitely my strength…however in caregiving, I can sometimes feel like there is too much to organize. So I organize within the organization (always new ways to organize). (:

I think my strength is perseverance. I just want to make sure it is a joyful perseverance not a “grit my teeth and bear it” perseverance.

I also am well organized. This is good, as long as I can learn to adapt to the ever changing cycle of caregiving and life itself without getting frustrated.

I also think I can express myself fairly well in writing. This helps me to vent. It also helps me to clarify and solidify my deeply held convictions and beliefs in my life. It often helps me resolve things in my mind and often proves to be a great stress reliever. I also believe I have been a help to others at times through what I write.

Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at my desk, my strength is in being organized. It’s something I know I’m good at.

I’m also good at helping others. This week I’m helping a friend who also recently became a caregiver, get her son to and from a class both our sons are in, I tried to help a stray dog this morning, and I just agreed to watch a neighbor’s granddaughter for two hours twice a month. Hmmm, think I need to learn to say, “No”.

And Donna, I can help you with that budgeting, too!
