We’re taking time this week to reflect and to enjoy some down time. We’re also posing daily questions which prod reflection or action.
Today’s question is: What activity will you enjoy with your caree?
It can seem like all you and your caree often play a game of cat and mouse. Today, though, enjoy a game that allows you both to enjoy, to relax, to be beyond the disease the disease or injury that dealt you a bad hand. Your activity may only last a few minutes. That’s okay. Whatever you can manage will be great.
Play a game. Then, tell us about it in our comments section.
When you share in our comments section, you’ll be entered into a chance to win a great gift basket. Congratulations to Karen who won yesterday’s gift basket! And, be sure to check out our We Break for Summer! merchandise in our store; celebrate with a t-shirt or mug designed by our own Donna Webb. Shop here.
Today my caree and I will go for a long walk. He likes to drive way ahead of me in his scooter, I think it must give him a feeling of independence to do so.
well, today we are getting yet another new mattress for mom, this is supposed to be a better one, more for those who are bedbound. So, someone has to carry her to the front room and put her on the couch while the switch is made. It is a coordinated effort that the nurse has put together. So, mom and I will be “enjoying” her getting a better mattress today!
lol three of us lifted mom, bedding, mattress and all unto the floor, put the new one on the bed, lifted her up with the bedding, leaving the other mattress on the floor….she just took it all in stride lol. This mattress is air, not electric and no extra heat on her sooo much better!
I love it! I can just picture this. The new bed ounds like a winner!
Good for you!
”In plenty and in want, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health” Those were my vows 39 years ago today.
Because my husband has therapy this morning and it has been a busy week, we do not have big plans for today. We plan to stop somewhere to eat this early evening, however, and then later go to two of our granddaughters’ Bible school program tonight.
Tomorrow we will be going to the be Holland Festival in Cedar Grove, WI. Cedar Grove is about 4 miles from us They have a big festival each year. Tomorrow two of our granddaughters (8 years and 6 years old) will be klompen dancing with their wooden shoes in the parade. They will be putting on a smaller but more close up performance today, but I don’t think I will take my husband along to that. I do not want to get him too fatigued.
Happy aniiversary….39 years….how wonderful is that!!…
We will be married 30 August 23rd….
Congratulations again…..hope you enjoyed your dinner today…..and have fun tomorrow and the festival…..
Finally got a chance to come in quickly…been a very hectic week….mostly telelphone visiting with my sister and niece…
my nieces husband was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor which is somewhere lurking in his body so he needs to go to a cancer research hospital to begin getting this controlled….it is very rate…his endoconologist is not even knowledgeable of it at all…that is why they are sending him to an actual cancer hospital.
being on the phone so much prompted mom to ask what was happening….
i told her that cory was going through some medical tests…there may be a tumor…we have to see what happens…
to keep her from being upset Ive put on frank sinatra cds and try to get her to sing the songs with me……
today i took her for her hair with the access a ride service….im adapting to sean not being around to drive me….we actually had fun and while waiting for the return pick up i went and got her a coffee and a toasted bagel…..
tomorrow we have to go see kevins uncle whose health is also taking a bit of a downward turn so mom will be home ….I didnt want to bring her to assisted living and I can only imagine dragging the two of them for lunch…lol….but we are taking her to mass on sunday..it has been so hot here and she has not been able to go to church so sunday it is…we will light candles for cory while there …. I know that will make her feel better in some way
ok….i missed you all this week….just been busy……
but Im always thinking of each of you…..!!
Donna,
I love how you have handled all of this. Boy, it’s a lot. But it sounds like you had a good time with your mother. I have also found that music works wonders. I have a lot of hymns on CD and Mom and I sing along to them in the car when I have to take her for appointments. When I take my brother out, he tends to get agitated and upset until I turn them on. He doesn’t remember the words, but they seem to calm him.
Karen thank you!!…I have found music to be the cure all for many things….it removes some of the worries in a small way….i even put on my ipod and just walk when Im starting to feel trapped with the world….that and laughter….somehow through all the madness find something funny to focus on…worrying wont change any of this….God is in the midst of what is going on around us…he is at work and in full control and things will turn out the way he sees fit and Im just trying to stay joyful somehow and keep my confidence with that thought!! But down here we all sometimes need a hand to smooth away some of the uncertainties and fears…and Im happy to have all of you!!….thanks for your kind words..
We took my mother with us tonight to feed the chickens, horse, dogs and cats…(we’ve been petsitting). My aunt was with us as well and they talked a bit about having chickens 60 some odd years ago. It was very nice at the start, but I realized my mother’s attention span is not very long – this is fairly new. It made me feel better though because it showed me that it isn’t just in the house that she wants to move on to something else. I am so glad we all went!
