Friday Fun: Give Us the Guffaws

It’s Friday, so let’s share some funnies. What’s a humorous experience that’s happened to you in your caregiving role? It could be something that happened years ago or just yesterday, as long as today it makes you giggle. We’ll giggle with you.

Please share in our comments section.

And, we’ll give away a We Break for Summer! mug from our We Break for Me store plus an autographed copy of Denise’s book, The Caregiving Years, Six Stages to a Meaningful Journey, to one person who shares.

In 2006, mom broke he ankle and had to be in a cast for a month and then another month of rehab (at home). The following is an excerpt from the blog I wrote about that period of time.

“During the weeks that she was in a cast, then rehab, she needed help with getting dressed, getting on and off the bed, the potty, getting in and out of a wheel chair and on and off the couch. I’d put my arms around her in a big bear hug, and she would do the same to me. Then I would pivot her to whatever spot she was going to. One day as I was hugging her up off the bed, I told her we have never hugged this much in all our lives, we’re making up for lost time! She laughed and agreed with me!”

There was another time when we were laughing about some silly thing I had said to her, and she said “We have more fun then a bunch of monkeys!” lol

I took my husband to the university for swim therapy. Upon our first time there, a man was taking his son to swim and asked if I was there for the swim therapy, he then said, just follow me, you bring him right in here and get him changed and take him into the pool area. Well, he escorted us into the mens locker room!!!! The locker room was full of college age boys and they didn’t seem to mind that I was in there! I remember telling my husband, oh my! You might end up going out to the pool with your swimsuit around the top of your head, because it’s hard for me to concentrate on what I’m doing!!!! And then I said, pinch me….I must be dreaming! We got out to the pool area and I asked the woman in charge, do I belong in the mens locker room? She said oh no!!! The student in charge of your husband was supposed to meet you out front and he was supposed to take him in and get him changed for class! Well – it’s still a most vivid memory to me!!!!

We are on our way home tonight from a week away. We have had coverage at the house while we have been gone. I love New England and it has been a nice week; always hard to go back to PA…Greg reminded me of a funny story with my mother that happened the night before we left for MA. She had come out to have dinner with us and as she left the dining area, one of our cats, Zinnia, who likes to ride on her walker, jumped on to ride again. My mother looked at Abrah, our 14 year old, and said (very seriously), “want to buy a duck?”. We all couldn’t help but laugh and my mother joined in too. Thank heavens for funny moments. If it were not for them, I might want to keep going on route 84 tomorrow! (:
