My mother woke up, to some degree, from her Ativan-induced sleep. I think it will be several more days before she’ll be back to where she was. Sadly that seems to be less each time we have one of these setbacks. Hospice has indicated this will be consistent until the very end – have setback, lose ground, setback, lost ground, etc, days to weeks is what she has been given – I’m still in the process with that last revelation.
Dad is to be most likely returned to his nursing home today, also predicted to decline as the result of the surgery and leaving his environment.
I have slept 24 hours of the last 48 hours or so. It is actually almost 2 am here now, and I am just now starting to get sleepy, FINALLY.

Hi Derek, I wish we were near by, we could hug or hold each other’s hand or something as we go through these times…mom stopped eating on Friday, which means this will be over for us in a matter of days now. I got up early because a storm was knocking out our power and I rushed into mom’s room to check her “electric mattress” to make sure it was on…forgot we had switched it out for a non-electric one. It was still programmed in my brain that storm = possible electric bed shut down and mom would sink! Anyhow I am still up, her aide comes at 7, then her nurse will be here sometime to day to evaluate her and then I guess we will determine a course of action or non-action to take with mom. What a roller coaster of emotions this is. I hope you will get rest, and try to find peace in the midst of your roller coaster Derek, blessings and strength to you.

I’m also sorry that you are going through this. I can’t even imagine how hard it is to be saying goodbye to both of them at once. Again, as I’m struggling today to make a decision about placing my mom in an adult family home, I am reminded that it could be much worse. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
