This morning on Your Caregiving Journey, Karlin Sloan, author of the upcoming book, “Unfear: Facing Change in an Era of Uncertainty,” joined me to help us move from fear to unfear. You can listen to our show via the player, below.
During our discussion, Karlin shared four practices in order to move into unfear. They are:
1. Accept the reality and focus on the future. In particular, I think it’s important to accept the reality of your limits, your caree’s limits, your family’s limits and life’s limits. Understanding these limits helps you plan and prepare for today and tomorrow.
2. Build relationships and community. These relationships and communities (like us) help to keep you grounded and well. Relationships include the ones you have with people, pets and things, such as your journal and garden.
3. View your challenges as your opportunities. This thought moves you from thinking, I can’t, to knowing you can.
4. Practice mental and physical discipline every day. I love this one! The magic of discipline is that changes don’t occur over night but over your life. Day by day, with discipline, you become strong and confident as you live in unfear.
So, what do you think? How can you use these practices to help manage your caregiving days?
(Our next show airs tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET, 7 a.m. PT). Holly joins me to talk about finding your holiday flow. You can listen here.)

I just listened to this program earlier this afternoon. I enjoyed the program, and some helpful thoughts were expressed.
