Talking Candy, Help and Bands

Marah and the candy she's selling to help CareGifters.

I had two guests this morning on Table Talk: Bette, who cares for her mom, and Marah, Bette’s nine-year-old daughter. You can listen to our show via the player at the bottom of the post.

When we announced our CareGifters initiative (we raise money to fund caregiving solutions, one family caregiver at a time), Marah said she wanted to help. So, she’s been selling candy, ordered through Hershey’s Fundraising. By next weekend, she will have raised about $125 to donate to our initiative.

Marah joined me today to talk about selling candy and helping her grandmother. She also shared suggestions for other kids who may be living with a grandparent. Thanks, Marah, for all your help!!

Bette spoke about her plans for the summer which include two family vacations. She’s beginning to organize care at home for her mom while they are gone. We talked about finding the balance of privacy (in the home and for her mom) as more help gets involved in her mom’s care. We also discussed some ideas to help Bette pack everything she needs for a good vacation but her guilt.

We closed the show with an announcement about bands (think LIVESTRONG) we’ll be selling to raise money for CareGifters. The bands sport two messages: I can! and Caregiving.com. We’ll have the bands ready to sell in about two weeks (stay tuned!).
