What Will You Dive In and Try?

Diving in

We’re breaking for summer!

We’re taking time this week to reflect and to enjoy some down time. We’re also posing daily questions which prod reflection or action.

Today’s question is: What will you dive in and try?

Today, if you are new to our site, I hope you will dive in to our discussions (we’d love to meet you!).

Today, it’s about taking a chance, about diving into discomfort. Talk openly with your support system about a struggle. Find an activity that sounds fun and head out to enjoy it—by yourself. Set a boundary with a family member who oversteps their bounds. Delegate responsibility. Tell someone you love them.

Dive. Then, tell us about it in our comments section.

Congrats to Jane, who won yesterday’s gift bag!

We Break for Summer! Event Updates

  • Facebook contest: Take a break and take a picture. Then, post your photo on our Facebook fan page; one random winner will receive a $25 gift Visa card. Contest begins August 28 and ends September 3; we’ll announce a winner on September 4. We’ll also share your photos on Caregiving.com, so take a break and post your photo as soon as you can.
  • Twitter contest: Tweet daily after you take a break (even if for five minutes); in your tweet, tell us what you did and include this hashtag: #carebreak. We’ll choose a daily winner to receive a copy of Take Comfort, Reflections of Hope for Caregivers.
  • Free Webinar: “Escape! Taking a Day Off Without Taking a Leave” takes place today (August 31) at 11 a.m. CT.  In our 2011 Annual Family Caregiver Survey, we asked: When was/is the hardest time for you in your caregiving role? 32% of respondents said  their hardest time was when they were exhausted from not taking a break. In this 45-minute seminar, I’ll offer ideas on how you can escape without taking a leave from the house. To join this webinar, just visit here on August 31 at 11 a.m. CT. Be sure to bring paper and pen.

Woohoo! I’m so excited I wanted to win one but I told myself even if I didn’t I would still to the daily blogs you post and I would be okay with it.

I will be back after I think about the question and respond.

    Thank you so much.

    Hugs:o)

I will try to look at what I have accomplished on this day instead of what I haven’t accomplished.

Today I called a friend and explained that I had somehow knocked our bedroom closet door off the track, I didn’t know how to fix it, and I didn’t think it would be something Steve could do because I was worried about how much strength he’d need to lift the door. Closet door fixed!

Tomorrow is the day that I dive into full commitment to caretaking Mary for as long as it takes. Her daughters and I have discussed this and I made the decision to do it, but as of tomorrow it is “official”
and I will actually get paid a little to do it. It is a bit scary, as I could have one foot in the grave myself by the time it’s all over, I am diving into the problem of making a life for myself that has meaning beyond caretaking.
