My first recommendation for a caregiver suffering burn-out is to find a support group. Support groups can be a great resource of tools to help you find the respite that is so much needed. All support groups are different, so it may mean some exploration to find the best match.
Next, I would suggest some sort of day care. There are so many different levels of this type of care, some work and some do not. Again, exploration is key.
I know that that by definition, burnout leaves a person in a very low place. Just keep looking for any type of resource that may offer a bit of support. Call associations, watch your local newspaper for a link to some opportunites.
Don’t give up! It’s vital for your survival!

Even before Linda’s excellent recommendations, I’d suggest the burnt out caregiver admit that they are indeed burnt out, that they can’t do it all. With that important concession he or she will be in a much better position to follow through on support groups, day care, etc.

I was able to listen to the program and have to commend you and Bette. You two do an excellent job in providing information in an easy, conversational manner. I really enjoyed the show and it has nothing to do with the fact that I won a tote bag!
This support group is what helps me stave off caregiver burn-out. Thanks everyone!
