Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month and the theme this year is Never Too Old To Play! I discovered this through Twitter, and have made great use of this information.
On Tuesday mornings I teach Keep Your Brain Buff at the senior center. Teaching the class keeps my brain buff, keeps me on my toes, tests my patience, and brightens my day. How could I not enjoy this when a 98-year-old man tells me that I’m cute every time he comes to class or when another person gives me her cherished copy of People magazine so I can see the pictures of the sexiest men alive or when they think I’m only in my 40’s when in reality I’m 51? All those things bring a smile to my face.
This week on Tuesday we used information from the Older Americans Month website, http://www.olderamericansmonth.aoa.gov/ The website includes a downloadable activity guide that includes a trivia challenge which we tackled. It was hard but fun. The individuals enjoyed working together in teams and trying to pull things out of their memories. They lived through some of the things and I’m sure I learned about some in school, but we all agreed that we didn’t remember most of the information.
Check out the website and you may decide to use the trivia challenge for your next multi-generation family gathering!

Great post, G-J!
Shortly after we moved here, I went to a local dance and met a 92-year-old gentleman. He told me he especially enjoyed the faster dances because he could keep his balance better with those.

PS: Kudos to you for your work/play at the senior center!

Hi G-J–This is great and I love your idea to incorporate the trivia in our next multi-generational challenges (which could be Sunday, Mother’s Day).
