This Sunday would be my wife’s birthday if she were still alive.
This has been a difficult year for my kids. Crying, grave site visits, depression. It hasn’t been this bad since the year she died. Decided this would be a great weekend to see my Mother-in-law. She had a heart attack last month and although she is recovering nicely post surgery, I haven’t seen her yet.
Not planning on staying long, just part of the weekend. I’ve got a lot on the calender for next week but I believe even a short visit will mean a lot both for my kids and my Mother-in-Law.
At this moment however I am sitting in the ER. Dad is not drinking (stopped swallowing liquids) and is dehydrated. Center called an ambulance and me. Tests are being run but the Dr greeted me by asking about DNR guidance. He persisted and asked if we the family had talked about it.
Probably just protocol but of all the ER visits I’ve done with Dad, no one has ever asked that before.
Kids and I are scheduled to board a plane in a few hours. We’ll see. I’ll be spending the night if not longer in the ER.
I covet prayer for my Dads health, for wisdom, for my kids and Mother-in-Law.
