About Denise Brown

Avatar of Denise
I began working with family caregivers in 1990 and launched CareGiving.com in 1996 to help and support them. Through my blog, I share words of comfort and offer coping strategies and tips. I also write opinion pieces about recent research, community programs and media coverage of caregiving issues.

A quiet, private space for reading, writing, observing. For me, this means my “reading couch” when partner is asleep; sitting on the porch with my journal, eReader, camera, and lap desk, and observing nature; and, less frequently, driving to a local park (where I can sit at a picnic table in a pavilion) or the library (with A/C and fabulous picture windows).

As EJ said a quiet place in ‘my room’ to read uninterrupted, listening to music, knitting. Sleeping. Swimming in the pool. Tai Chi. Ideally with no yelling :) and no dementia hah. Watching a movie on the big screen TV. Rest.

  4. I live my perfect Staycation every July. I live 1/2 mile from a Campmeeting grounds. I walk to/from the a.m. & afternoon medical lectures every day, and various other attributes of the week, and seeing friends from prior years – as well as catching up with family/friends of alumni I went to school with 40 yrs ago. I leave my car parked in my garage all week, and walk to/from the grounds every day, couple to several times a day. It’s my best walking week of the year. I treat it as my “spa week staycation” and eat completely spa healthy all week, with the added fruits that I don’t usually buy on a regular basis. I look fwd to this special week every year. It sure beats being out in traffic congestion, too.
