Infection Reflection or Catch 22 of Modern Medicine
Do you know what can happen when one has spent eight of the last twelve months on antibiotics? Do you know what can happen when an Infectious disease doctor discharges you from the hospital with a guarantee that you are 100% infection free?
You go home. You try to mend. You work hard at getting your strength back. You fight to have your life back to some semblance of normalcy. You wait and work towards the return of your energy.
But, did you know after all this that another beast can strike? A fungus, a yeast infection. An infection that is very painful, that keeps you up at night. An infection that showed up in spite of the guarantee. Whoops! Too many antibiotics can cause this. And so we go again. Legs are swollen and ache, creatinine count for kidney’s way to close to game over. The cure? More antibiotics! There are no options.
How many times can you give the same pep talk? How many times does my husband have to go through the same thing? How much pain, aggravation, and frustration can he endure before there is no longer any determination to start anew? “You got me going in circles…My mind is in a whirlpool, give me a little hope, one small thing to cling to…”*
