Twilight

(From the Community Caregiving Journal 3-word prompts ARGH!!!!, Downhill, Aware.)

Argh!!!!

Tightness pushes into my chest

As tears burn my lashes

I am aware as you slide

Inch, by inch

Downhill

About Thedogmama

Hi, I am a retired only child who, after several years taking care of my parents in another state long distance, was the caregiver to my 94 year old mother. Mom lived with us in two of our upstairs bedrooms she thought of as her "little apartment". She had extensive osteoarthritis, COPD, CHF and pulmonary hypertension. In the four years she lived with us she endured more pain than anyone should have to handle. Because of the arthritis she had the head of her humerus in her right arm removed to alleviate pain and internal bleeding. It was not reconstructed. Shortly after this incident I thankfully found CareGiving.com. Later that year she fractured her pelvis and in rehab the head of the femur broke off her left leg. The repair of the femur was successful, but due to the osteoarthritis her pelvis continued to deteriorate and could not support her weight. She was confined to a wheelchair and her bed. After 7 months of living that way she passed away in my arms on July 26, 2014. I live in Massachusetts with my Hubby, Mom's cat Molly, our African Grey Parrot Penelope and our new English Springer Spaniel puppy Calista. We have two adult children who adored their grandmother and live about an hour away.
