The forecast was for a little sleet/freezing rain and maybe a “dusting” of snow. Check out the picture of the dusting on the picture I’ve included. They missed this one by a long shot. Nothing different on days like this but I do feel more confined than normal and really shouldn’t because I probably wouldn’t be going out anyway. So it’s been a good day for catching up with friends on the phone, Facebook and Twitter. Also a good day to begin a new book. My niece is a “chick-lit” author and emailed me a copy of her newest book to read for a review. So far, good book. This is her third and final in a series. If she keeps this pace up she should be good to go. Plus I love to promote writing and books any way I can.
I also finished an excellent book last night, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. No, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I want to. Extremely well written and also very sad. The time period is the beginning of WWII in Nazi Germany and it’s written from the perspective of Death. Death tells the story. So really enjoying something a little more lighthearted.
Oh, if I had a sketch pad: I need to get one and some pencils the next time I go to Marshall’s or one of those discount stores. If I had a sketch pad I could have spent my day imagining on paper how I want my backyard to look this spring. I have plans for it. Dad’s health is more stable than it has been and I can get outside (eventually) and do some planting. Containers, herbs, perennials, anything to draw hummingbirds, butterflies and the like. Last year I had two trees taken down in the backyard so that means the yard looks empty or “nekkid” as we say here.
In one section I plan to do an herb garden–rosemary, sage, lavender, and more. Sprinkle in some flowers and a wine bottle tree. Yes, you heard me. Google them and see them. They’re gorgeous and I have enough bottles saved (over time) for one. I think it would be a great accent piece for the yard and look really cute with the herbs and “culinary” garden.
I also have another section in my yard I would like to have a “meditation area” for myself. One of those little Japanese pagoda houses, a cherry blossom tree, just some pretty, peaceful plants and a place to get up in the yard and chill with a good book. The farthest I’ve been able to get out of the house for the last few spring/summers has been just outside the back door for fear Dad would need me. Now that he’s doing better, I can do something for me. I also plan to do some Leyland Cypress to stagger a border of sorts on both sides of my backyard for privacy’s sake.
So late tonight as I’m getting ready to settle in with my pot of tea (chamomile I believe), I’ve had a blessed day. Daddy and I even shared hot cocoa together tonight as a treat.
If I had a sketch pad I doubt I would have gotten many things accomplished. But at least I have a plan.
