Teleclasses To Help Throughout Your Caregiving Journey
For Family Caregivers and Professionals
Teleclass Guidelines
If you are new to teleclasses, the information below will give you some pointers on how to get the most out of your class experience.
1. What’s Needed:
Just your phone, a pad of paper, and a pen. If you use a cordless phone, please stay as close to the base unit as possible to cut down on static and interference. Please don't use your cell phone or your speaker phone.
2. Call In Time:
Please call at the time scheduled; please be aware we use Central Time.
3. Joining the Call:
When you call in, participants may hear a beep or a ring so they know someone has joined the call but no one will know it’s you. You do not have to identify yourself unless you want to. It's okay to stay anonymous!
4. If You’re Late:
It's okay that you may be late (we understand that you're juggling many responsibilities). Just remain silent--you'll soon understand where we are in the call.
5. Leaving Early:
Please discuss any scheduling conflicts with Denise prior to the class.
The following applies to our free weekly teleclass only: You may join for the stress reduction part of the call (about 25 minutes) only. Denise will permit those on limited schedules to leave after the stress reduction portion of the call. For those who can stay, great!
6. Leaving the Call:
When the class is over, feel free to say goodbye to everyone and just hang up. Please don’t stay on the line after the call is over as the telephone system needs to reset itself for the next call.
7. Line Noise and Other Distractions:
Common line noises include the beeps heard when someone joins the call and the brief dial tone heard when someone leaves the call.
8. Background Noise and Other Distractions:
Try to participate in the teleclass from a quiet place with minimal noise or disturbances. If you are participating in our free weekly teleclass, feel free to find a comfortable place in your home (you may even choose to lay on your bed).
9. Mouthpiece or Microphone Position:
Position your mouthpiece or telephone headset microphone a bit away from your mouth and nose to avoid broadcasting your breathing sounds.
10. Call-waiting:
Please disable call waiting. To do so, pick up the phone, wait for the dial tone, dial *70 (that's star-seven-zero), waiting for the dial tone again, and then dialing the teleclass phone number. If you don't have touchtone dialing, tap in 1170 instead of *70.
11. 2-line phones:
If you have a two-line phone, please turn off the ringer for the second line or disconnect the line. If you don’t, and you get a call during the teleclass, it can be a really shrill noise that everyone hears.
12. Commenting and Sharing:
When prompted by Denise, you're welcome to share your thoughts and ideas; we ask that all comments are shared in a positive way (no judgments or "you should's"). If you share an idea that's not phrased positively, we'll ask you to re-phrase it. Before sharing or commenting, please introduce yourself, i.e., "Hi, this is Mary from Boston...."
13. Bridge Number Confidentiality:
You agree to not share the teleclass bridge line number(s) with anyone.
14. Recording Teleclasses/Confidentiality:
You may not record teleclasses. Discussions that occur during the teleclass remain private and confidential among participants.
Please Note: Classes are non-refundable. However, if you must cancel a
session, we'll work with your schedule to add you to our next session.
