The Caregiving Years:

Working Well with Family Caregivers Throughout the Six Stages

Throughout the caregiving journey, which can last from six months to more than 10 years, the role of family caregivers evolves--and so should the services and the support they receive.

The Caregiving Years describes the path that caregivers take--from Expectant Caregiver, to Freshman Caregiver, to Entrenched Caregiver, to Pragmatic Caregiver to Transitioning Caregiver to Godspeed Caregiver. Most important, the stages--and their related Stumbles and Steadies--provide a map for family caregivers together with their travel companions, health care professionals, to navigate successfully through the caregiving journey.

We'll cover two stages each class. Be sure to read information about how professionals can apply the stages in their work with family caregivers.

Upon completing this course, you'll be ready to take The Caregiving Years Presentation Program into your community.

Presenter is Denise Brown, Publisher and Editor

Working with Family Caregivers!

Learn the reasons for the overwhelming emotions of the family caregiver experience: Anger, guilt and resentment. And, learn how coaching techniques (asking empowering questions, allowing the client to create their own solutions, creating action plans) move your clients to a better, healthier place.

This is a three-week teleclass series led by Denise Brown. The cost is $60  (plus the cost of long-distance phone calls) to participate in all three teleclasses (no cancellation). The teleclass series includes an overview of professional coaching (and how it differs from therapy) and how you can use coaching techniques in your every-day interactions with family caregivers.

A comprehensive class on how to hold teleclasses for family caregivers

Tuesdays (May 13, 20 and 27) at 1 p.m. Central Time

As a result of taking this four-week course with Denise, you'll:

1. Have a ready-to-go three-week teleclass series for family caregivers that you've created;
2. Learn the tips and tricks of holding a successful series.

The series includes four, 50-minute teleclasses, three led by Denise and one led by you! After the three classes, you'll design and hold your own 50-minute teleclass. In addition, you'll receive one-on-one coaching with Denise prior to and after holding your own teleclass.

The first three teleclasses teach you how to hold a teleclass. Then, you'll take what you learn and hold your own.

Your cost: $249.00

Can You Tell Me Who I Am?

Not offered this time, check back in June.

Family caregivers may lose independence, jobs and friends because of their caregiving role. They also lose themselves. In this three-week series, we'll look at tools, skills and exercises you can use with family caregivers to help them find themselves, which often is a new and improved version of who they were. And, when they find themselves, they begin to plan their post-caregiving life.

Denise Brown leads this three-week teleclass. Cost is $60 (no cancellation), plus the cost of long-distance phone calls. You'll receive (fun!) homework assignments to complete prior to each class.

Helping Family Caregivers

Heal the Life-Long Family Rifts

Not offered this time, check back in April.

Sisters who don't speak to each other; adult children who withdraw from their parents: Feuding family members affect all generations. In this seminar, we'll share ideas and suggestions on how to move past the rifts that can tear a family apart.

Denise Brown is your class presenter. Cost is $60 for all three classes (no cancellation) plus the cost of long-distance phone calls.

Offering Online Support Groups:

What To Know, What To Do

To Create Online Support Havens

Not offered this time; check back in June.

Our online support groups are busiest at night (and, often, in the middle of the night), when a family caregiver finally has the time. That’s one reason online support groups are so effective: They allow access to support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In this three-week class, we’ll share history of our 11 online support groups, the technology (free!) available to start your own group and how to keep the group a safe haven for all members.

The presenter is Denise Brown, cost for the three-week class is $60 plus the cost of long-distance phone calls.

How to Start and Nurture

A Community-Based Support Group

Not offered this time, but check back in June

Would you like to support family caregivers in your community? Or, are you a family caregiver looking for support? In three weeks, we'll share how to start a support group, how to be an effective facilitator and how to market and publicize your new group.

The presenter is Denise Brown, cost for the three-week class is $60 plus the cost of long-distance phone calls.
