ElderCare Seminars, Workshops and In-Services Have Denise speak to family caregivers in your community or at your workplace! Denise has been presenting to family caregivers (and about the family caregiver experience) since 1998. Her presentations are lively, fun and inspiring. "Bring Denise back next year!" "I saw you in San Diego. You were great." "We could have listened to you all day." Topic Suggestions: 1. The Caregiving Years: Six Stages to a Meaningful Journey Throughout the caregiving journey, which can last from six months to more than 10 years, the role of family caregivers evolves--and so should the services and the support they receive. The Caregiving Years describes the path that caregivers take--from Expectant Caregiver, to Freshman Caregiver, to Entrenched Caregiver, to Pragmatic Caregiver to Transitioning Caregiver to Godspeed Caregiver. Most important, the stages--and their related Stumbles and Steadies--provide a map for family caregivers (and their travel companions, health care professionals) to navigate successfully through the caregiving journey. Speaker: Denise Brown, Publisher and Editor, Caregiving.com This is our most requested presentation. Great as a keynote for a family caregiver conference or for a professional conference. 2. Today: The Truth and The Team This seminar encourages family caregivers to voice their truths--about their experiences, their worries, their concerns and their guilt. In this interactive seminar, attendees will discuss their truths: The ones they wear on their face ("their public truth") and the ones that weigh on the hearts ("their private truth"). Once attendees have discussed their truths, the seminar will turn to helping family caregivers form their team of support, so they can face their inner truths with action plans and solutions. 3. I'm Toast! Survival Tips for the Burnt-Out Caregiver Family caregivers may reach their limits--and still be a in a position of providing care. In this workshop, we'll talk about how it feels to be burn-out: physically, emotionally and spiritually. Then, we'll move to a discussion of proactive steps a family caregiver can take now to help battle those inevitable days of caregiver burn-out. 4. Family Caregivers: Who They Are, What They Want Since 1996, Caregiving newsletter has conducted an annual survey of its readers and visitors to its web site. Through the survey, family caregivers talk about the best and the worst of the experience, as well as their wishes for help in the community and from health care professionals. In this seminar, Denise shares the survey results and how family caregivers can improve their experiences and how health care professionals can better work with them. But, year after year of neglecting yourself will take its toll. How do you take care of yourself (emotionally, physically and spiritually) when you give care to your family member? In this interactive session, we’ll share ideas on how to integrate your own self care into your caregiving routine. 6. Hey, What About Me!
