This short but intensive, dementia coping stratagies event for carers and families has been designed to address the stress and insecurity of careing for an eldlery person with a dementia.

AIMS
  • Provide a brief understanding of the impact old age has on our senses
  • Inform and educate carers about what is a dementia, the signs symptoms and progression of the illness
  • Provide strategies and techniques to help carers cope with stress challenging behaviour and manage the symptoms of the disease
  • The benefits and application of reminiscence and life history in providing care
  • Signposting to resources and support services
Objectives
  • Highlight the impact of old age and sensory decline before considering a degenerative mental illness
  • What is dementia?
  • Explore the behaviours of key  generic dementia symptoms, their development and  coping strategies
  • Problem solving & practical solutions
  • Services & Benefits available

What is involved?

The course is 3hrs duration, starting 10:30hrs and finishes at 13:30hrs with a 20 min break. Delegates will receive speaker notes, handouts, list of information resources, reminiscence ideas and a life history template.How much does it cost?
