This short but intensive, dementia coping stratagies event for carers and families has been designed to address the stress and insecurity of careing for an eldlery person with a dementia.
AIMS Provide a brief understanding of the impact old age has on our senses Inform and educate carers about what is a dementia, the signs symptoms and progression of the illness Provide strategies and techniques to help carers cope with stress challenging behaviour and manage the symptoms of the disease The benefits and application of reminiscence and life history in providing care - Signposting to resources and support services
Objectives Highlight the impact of old age and sensory decline before considering a degenerative mental illness What is dementia? Explore the behaviours of key generic dementia symptoms, their development and coping strategies Problem solving & practical solutions - Services & Benefits available
What is involved? The course is 3hrs duration, starting 10:30hrs and finishes at 13:30hrs with a 20 min break. Delegates will receive speaker notes, handouts, list of information resources, reminiscence ideas and a life history template.How much does it cost? The course cost £50.00/person. However, the course is sometimes funded or subsidised by a local authority or charity.
