It was just too hot in this part of California to even move this weekend. I am going to try and make it to a yoga class Tuesday morning.

    • Not too pleasant on the East Coast either. Fall can’t come soon enough! :)

    • The heat broke today, bringing with it a gentle cooling breeze. Nothing lasts forever…

I made it to a water aerobics class today. The hard part was getting some momentum to actually get to the pool. It was such a beautiful summer day. The instructor had a great “soundtrack,” a mix of new artists and oldies…very uplifting. The sunshine, the therapeutic water, and the social aspect was just what the doctor ordered. I attended a…[Read more]

    • I love water aerobics. I haven’t gone as much as I should lately but it’s my favorite activity!!!j

      • Me, too, Lillie. I respond well to being around water or out in nature. It seems to work on all aspects of my being, i.e. not just physical. I hope you can find time to go, especially since it’s your favorite activity.

Haven’t posted in groups in a long time. I have to get into the habit. I am an everyday gym junkie……..Nursing school has put a damper on that for the next year. It is a struggle, but I try to get there at least once a week and I do 30 minutes minimum of cardio on an arc trainer. It alternates high steps to glides. I then exercise all of…[Read more]

    • That’s awesome, Jenn. I FEEL better with exercise as well. I am impressed that you are attending nursing school. I bet a lot of us caregivers would make great nurses.

Hi All. I am new to the site. It is so difficult to find time for fitness as a caregiver. How do you fit fitness into your routine?

    • Hi Heidi – I just to love to swim 3 times a day and on Sundays when the roads were quiet, I would cycle for at least an hour….. Since I started being a full time carer, all of my keep-fit routines have just fallen by the way side. Now doing the house work and taking care of my Mom is about all I can manage.
      Welcome to the site :-)
      Colette

      • Hi Colette. I am right by the way side with you. I sure do understand. I also enjoy swimming….just love the way I feel afterwards…maybe the combination of the water and the light. I am envisioning housework with flippers on. :)

    • Oh, gosh, I was doing pretty good with this but it’s all fallen apart in the past 6 weeks or so. I try to do a 7-minute workout: http://www.caregiving.com/2015/01/this-year-seven-minute-workouts/

I also babysit a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old which means I’m moving and working out throughout the day.

I did buy a pass for our community pool but…[Read more]

      • Hi Denise. Routines seem to fall apart easily, much more so for caregivers (and babysitters). The 7-minute workout sounds reasonable. Do you try to carve out time for that in the morning or evening? I also have a swim pass that is collecting dust in my wallet. I was able to get in a swim once or twice per week a couple of years ago but my…[Read more]

    • Hi Heidi — I know what you mean. Like Lady Leo and Denise, my well laid plans have been…well, waylaid! My solution may not work for you but I thought I would share it. My husband’s physical therapist and his oncologist want him to begin light exercise. We are friends with a very fit and active couple who have volunteered to be his “gym…[Read more]

      • Hi Hussy. What a fabulous and all around good idea! Many moons ago I used to paddle an outrigger canoe. I loved being part of a team and the accountability was something I needed. I hope you enjoy your time next week. Good for you both!

I am going to go ahead and post my goals for January as well. I had to step up my “game” since I have plaque build up in my coronary arteries. Everyday I keep my heart rate up between 130 and 150 bpm for 1 hour. I then work essentially every muscle in my body. I do not have to lose weight, fortunately. I feel great! Unfortunately, Mom can…[Read more]

Monday & Tuesday: 45 minutes each on WiiFit Exercises
    Thursday: walked 4 miles

    • I do plan to walk today after work if it doesn’t RAIN – I am hoping and praying for RAIN and will probably walk in the RAIN if there is no thunder & lightening (forecasted)!
