Today at the gym, I was talking with a buddy whose family is originally from Africa, and many of who are emigating to Sicily, which is were my maternal grandparents came from. I majored in foreign languages and Italian, and have worked as an Italian translator of documents for some time, but that has needed to be curtailed since work, mom caregiving, and now grad school became busier. But funny thing, we were talking about the mix of so many international students at the community college where I work, and now international immigrants in Italy, and he commented that someday, maybe all my hard work, interests, experience and efforts will lead me to that happier place in my life that I really yearn for honing in on someday…happier not just maybe physically, someplace else to live my life, but mentally and emotionally too, someday beyond my current caregiving responsibilities reality. I toy with the idea of spening a year in, or moving to Italy or more specifically Italy, someday. His inadvertently bringing it up in the conversation seemed auspicious. I hope for my life, dreams, happiness, and their fulfilment, to be waiting for me after the current caregiving phase of my life has passed someday. And meanwhile, I’ll never forget or regret all the experience and things in my caregiving that I have been accomplishing.
