Weekly Caregiver Tip (May 1, 2000) Home Health Care, Part 2 (Read Part 1) Making the Most of Home Health Care You've just hired a home health aide to take care of your father three days a week, two hours a day. Now, you have six whole hours a week to enjoy on your own! What the heck will you do with all that time? Take some time for yourself during the home care visits. Why not try one of these suggestions? --meet a friend for lunch. --check out the new releases at your local library. --pack a picnic lunch and a good book. Find a shady spot at your local park for a restful afternoon. --take a long drive, with no destination. Stop at a new spot for lunch. --volunteer--deliver meals to the homebound elderly, tutor a child at your local school, assist families at your area hospital. --finally take those piano lessons. --visit your local movie theatre to enjoy a matinee and tub of popcorn. --meet your spouse for lunch. --take your children out for ice cream. --enjoy a cup of coffee with your neighbor. --join a poetry or writing club. --join a "Great Books" club. --purchase a membership to your local art museum. --cheer on your local high school baseball or basketball team. --start a herb garden in pots. --join a support group. --take tennis or swimming lessons. --create your own space in your bedroom, basement or garage. Use the space as a sanctuary on those bad days so you can getaway without leaving your house.
