Caregiving Training for Your Workplace

0

Our work life now includes our life’s work – caring for a family member with a chronic illness or disease or injury. That caregiving experience impacts your employees and your customers.

More than 40 million persons in the U.S. provide care to a family member; six in 10 of these individuals also work. Our research indicates that those who work and care for a family member want to keep their jobs. They also want to connect with a professional who can understand their experience and guide them to the right resources and solutions.

Connect your employees and your customers who care with a professional on staff who cares -- a Certified Caregiving Consultant™. When your employees complete our CCC training program, you have invaluable experts on staff who can support and help your employees as well as your customers who care for a family member.

Your employees who complete the CCC training can share what works, which resources help and which solutions to try with colleagues. In addition, the CCC can lead support groups and take additional training to offer Lunch and Learn workshops.

Your employees who complete the CCC training also use their skills to defuse what could become challenging customer service issues.

"The interactive components like the chat rooms, the worksheets, and just the delivery of the program are fantastic! The course requires thought and reflection during the modules but also afterward." ~ a CCC student

Your Knowledge Base + Our Process + Our Tools = Success for You and Your Colleagues/Customers

During our course, we'll teach you the process we know works with stressed-out and overwhelmed family caregivers.

In addition, you receive access to our unique and innovative tools and assessments. You'll receive training on how to use the tools, like the My Life Right-Now Wheel, to engage more effectively with your employees.

Tools include various wheels (see examples below) which become visual prompts to help your employees focus on what they need and want. We also have a Caregiving Personality Assessment to uncover your employees' strengths and a Peace and Comfort at End of Life assessment to help your employees create just the right environment during their caree's last weeks.

As a consultant, you also can join our Caregiving Story Project and lead Care and Share™ moveable support group meetings. With our Story Project and Care and Share™, you have two programs that help you immediately connect with family caregivers and prospective clients.

We’ve been approved to provide 22 continuing education hours for graduates of our Certified Caregiving Consultant™ training program. (See more about CEUs, below.)

Certified Caregiving Educator™
As a Certified Educator, you can present The Caregiving Years presentation program through virtual presentations and in the community. The Caregiving Years presentation gives you a marketing tool and competitive advantage. Most important, family caregivers find tremendous value in a concept that provides comforting insights. We’ll arm you with presentation skills and a turn-key presentation program. We’ll help you develop a marketing plan to present The Caregiving Years in your community, at local employers and at your house of worship.

The Caregiving Years is an evidence-based program that delivers comforting insights and empowering perspective shifts for attendees. Dannelle LeBlanc delivered the workshop through a grant she received from her local Area Agency on Aging. Attendees to her presentation of The Caregiving Years all showed improvement in their ability to cope and in how they see their future. The improvement happened even to attendees already connected to resources, like ongoing support group meetings.

Meet a Trainer: Denise M. Brown

Denise M. Brown launched Caregiving.com in 1996. Caregiving.com was the first website to add online caregiving support groups, daily caregiving chats and blogs written by family caregivers. Through its blogs posts, podcasts and video chats, Caregiving.com holds one of the largest online libraries of caregiving stories.

Next Avenue named Denise a 2017 Influencer in Aging, one of “50 advocates, researchers, thought leaders, innovators, writers and experts who continue to push beyond traditional boundaries and change our understanding of what it means to grow older.”

Denise launched the Caregiving Consultant Training™ program in 2016 to create opportunities for former family caregivers to share their wisdom, knowledge basis and encouragement with current family caregivers.

Our CCC Training Program Agenda

Our nine modules provide an overview of the caregiving experience and insights in our core skills (questioning, listening and validating) and tools (our wheels).

  • Module 1 through Module 6: The Caregiving Years
    We’ll delve deep into The Caregiving Years concept so you have an indepth understanding of the family caregiver experience and a perspective that best helps you help family caregivers.
  • Module 7 and Class 8: Working Well with Family Caregivers
    You’ll encounter individuals who may feel sad, bitter, resentful and angry. You’ll learn techniques and gain skills to ensure your connections with family caregivers are both successful and powerful.
  • Module 9: Tools and Assessments
    Denise will show you how to use our tools and assessments so that you and your clients engage more deeply and effectively.

Our live discussions, which take place either every week or during a full day together, provide opportunities for you to practice your skills and talk through caregiving issues. We'll discuss:

  • Our pledges, goals and beliefs as well as universal caregiving emotions.
  • The importance of letting go as we work with our clients and the value of our three core skills: listening, questioning and validating.
  • How we work effectively with family caregivers.
  • Compassion fatigue as it relates to family caregivers.
  • Hope and preparing for the future.
  • The six stages of caregiving. How does the staging help us in our work?
  • Getting stuck and resistance.
  • Denial and fear.
  • The use of the tools and assessment.

CCC Certification

Once you’ve completed our program, you become certified after you:

  • Pass an exam;
  • Participate in 30-minute calls with our four CCC Skills Consultants;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the three skills we learn;
  • Participate in at least three chats on Caregiving.com;
  • Complete 5 caregiving consultations;
  • Tell a four-minute caregiving story, either yours and another’s (like a colleague or friend) during our training

We have learned that students who quickly complete their certification requirements do best after finishing our program. Students completing their requirements 91 days or after will inquire a $200 penalty in order to become certified. For example, let’s say you enroll in and pay for our CCC training on January 1. You choose to take a training on March 1. You have 90 days from March 1 to complete the certification requirements.
