Be the Difference: Consult, Educate, Facilitate, Specialize
The need is great for services and programs to help those individuals who care for a family member or friend (family caregivers).
You already know. That great need led you to us. You want to make a difference. You want to be the difference.
Family caregivers need a different, better experience. Our research shows that family caregivers rate their stress level as 4.15 on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the most stressed). Working with individuals experiencing that level of stress can be challenging. You may worry you won't know the right words to use. You may be concerned that a caregiving situation feels so complicated that you won't be able to offer a solution.
What if you had an effective communication process and engaging caregiving tools that provided comfort to any family caregiver or former family caregiver you help? What if the process and tools also allowed you to remain confident and empowered as you help? What if you had help creating an offering, like a product or service or support group, that reaches family caregivers, whether they be in your workplace, your community or your congregation?
Our training programs, including our Certified Caregiving Consultant™, Certified Caregiving Educator™ and Certified Caregiving Facilitator™, teach you how to work well with those who may be experiencing the worst times of their lives. In addition, our Consultant training program guides you into creating your own offering that helps you reach family caregivers.
"The wheels are wonderful tools. I’m using them with a family caregiver who is very visual. We started with wheels for Stages 3 and 4 (Entrenched and Pragmatic Caregiver) during our first two meetings and then shared five wheels to determine her next steps. The wheels provided clarity, better understanding and a huge reduction in her stress level. Thank you for developing these tools including them in our training programs. I ‘blew up’ the Prayer Wheel and Organize Wheel and put them on my white board." ~ Mike Cooper, CCC and CCE and owner, Naperville Senior Center
More than 150 individuals from the U.S., Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Qatar have enrolled in our Certified Caregiving Consultant™ training.
Denise M. Brown, founder of Caregiving.com, created the CCC program from her own experiences serving family caregivers since 1990. In 2004, Denise decided she needed to invest in professional training to ensure family caregivers and former family caregivers receive the best support possible.
During her coach training program, Denise learned several techniques and strategies to use with clients. The skills that stuck -- the ones she uses every day in her work -- are asking, listening and validating. These three skills have transformed her work with family caregivers, her interactions with her family and her sales conversations with customers.
Since launching Caregiving.com in 1996, Denise has interacted with family caregivers and former family caregivers on a daily basis. In her training program, Denise teaches what she uses to ensure our Facilitators, Consultants, Educators and Specialists have the skills, confidence and tools to successfully communicate with stressed-out and overwhelmed family caregivers. These stressed out family caregivers may be your clients, customers, colleagues and/or congregants.
Denise bases her training programs on a concept she developed in 1997 -- The Caregiving Years, Six Stages to a Meaningful Journey. Over the past 22 years, Denise has tweaked, modified and adjusted the concept to ensure the material remains relevant to family caregivers. She has presented the concept countless times, regularly educating both family caregivers and professionals.
In addition, the training also includes Denise's perspective on what compassion fatigue during caregiving feels like. Family caregivers grow weary of bad luck, coping, supporting, being gracious, making decisions, feeling discouraged and adjusting to changes. She shares how to help family caregivers heal from these fatigues.
