NCC18 Presenter: Susie Morrell

Join Susie for two sessions during our Third Annual National Caregiving Conference:

Sharing the Care – How one Family Has Approached Caregiving on November 9 at 11 a.m.
Caregiving often cannot be a one person job. It usually takes a team of people to help provide the companionship and personal care for a care recipient. Susie and her two sisters, Elizabeth and Annie, will share how they divide and conquer the family responsibilities and help support each other while living in three different states. These sisters (who refer to themselves as #sisterpower) recognize and tap into their strengths and collaborate with their brothers to help care for their chronically ill mom, their brother with a developmental disability, and their mom’s properties.

This family session will focus on:

  • Communicating with Family

  • Approaching Difficult Conversations

  • Managing Expectations

  • Finding Humor in Unexpected Places

  • Sharing Responsibilities

  • Organizing the Paperwork

  • Advocating for our Care Recipients

  • Protecting the Sibling Relationships

Each participant will leave with two free resources – a Family Responsibilities Worksheet and a Caregiving Responsibilities Worksheet. These resources can be applied in the family caregiver’s own life to determine how they can build and unite their care team.
We'll be shifting from a scarcity mindset of "I'm all alone in this caregiving journey and no one can or will help me" to a mindset of abundance where every family member plays a role in caregiving. We'll also shift from passively waiting for offers of help to intentionally seeking and securing the help you need.

Susie also will join the panel discussion, I Didn’t Think I Could but I Did, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m.

Susie is a mother of four and the primary family caregiver to her mom. Susie is also an artist who specializes in the oil painting genre creating original oil paintings from scenes and objects of everyday life. A member of the Daily Painters of Pennsylvania and the Artists of Yardley her work is a visual expression of the joy she experiences in the process of painting. The evolution of her process is a result of the inspiration that comes in combining traditional painting methods with today’s technology. You can connect with Susie and see her talent here:
