NCC18 Presenter: Terrie McKee

Denise
Join Terri for the following session during our Third Annual National Caregiving Conference:

Learning to Breathe Again: Spousal Caregiving after Trauma on Friday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m.
In "Learning to Breathe Again: Spousal Caregiving after Trauma," Terrie will share how she dealt with being a sudden caregiver after her husband was shot and paralyzed in an attempted armed robbery, while dealing with her own grief and PTSD. She will give insights on how caregivers can be their best selves while giving care to their loved ones. This session will offer tricks, tools, and tactics to assist spouses in their new role that gives new meaning to "in sickness and in health."

Terrie is a writer and speaker who blogs at NearYourAltar.com. Life was completely upended while traveling home from a Thanksgiving holiday when her husband Greg was shot and paralyzed in an attempted armed robbery at a North Carolina rest area. Suddenly, Terrie was not just a caregiver to their adult son with autism, but thrown into the world of paraplegia, bowel programs, cathing, and pressure sores. As she was being an active caregiver to her family, and continuing to write, she was learning how to breathe through the aftermath of a horrific trauma and the subsequent trial.
