Rachel Hiles
Caroline Costello, a leader with more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare arena, is a passionate, forward-thinking leader with a deep background in patient experience, patient relations, marketing and communications and grant review. She currently serves at UChicago Medicine (UCM) as the director for Patient and Family Insights, the Friends and Family Program, Guest Services Ambassadors and Destination UChicago. In her role at UCM, she has spearheaded several patient and family advisory councils and has developed programs to enhance the experience for patients who travel for care. She is a coach in key organizational engagement initiatives and is a champion for engagement for all stakeholders.

Other relevant experience includes work at two Arizona-based hospitals, with focus on service excellence and voice of the patient. She also served as the director of communications for Alexian Brothers Medical Center/Health System (now Amita Health) within the Chicago market. She has also served in communications capacities for several professional associations for physicians.

Caroline earned her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a bachelor of arts in public relations. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is certified by the Beryl Institute as a patient experience leader.

As a speaker, Caroline has presented at national conferences, including the Becker’s Health Review, RL Solutions and Vizient. Caroline has also served as a grant reviewer and policy advocate for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), Washington, DC and as a volunteer advocate for the National Patient Advocate Foundation.
