10 Ways You Make an Amazing Difference

You impact your family and your community in a way that others can't. As you care for a family member, you leave behind meaningful footprints. Here's how:

1. You stay with your caree during those days when the stress and pressure make you want to run. You stay with calming courage, bringing comfort to your caree.

2. You share your resources and solutions with others who care so that others avoid the isolation and frustration you experienced.

3. You politely correct health care professionals who recommend what you know won't work, which saves the system money, your caree frustration and yourself time.

4. You ensure your caree attends worship services and community events as often as possible, educating others about accommodations that make your attendance possible. In doing so, you pave the way for other family caregivers and and carees to participate, too.

5. You are a caring employer, hiring help for your caree and for yourself as often as you can. Your employment gives opportunities to others.

6. You live your values and priorities which may not be popular but certainly are inspiring.

7. You work through the grudges against other family members because you believe so strongly that the next generation needs to see forgiveness in action. You want to leave a legacy of forgiveness.

8. You listen to the life experiences your caree shares so that your caree's life lives through the stories you tell.

9. You thank others who help because you know how scarce helpful help can be. Because of your gratitude, others understand the difference they can make, too.

10. You do what you can today to find your emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. You know the best way to make a difference in your future is by taking care of today.
