28 Ways to Show the Love: Tell Me to Go

Each day in February, we’ll share a way that family members and friends can help the family caregiver in their lives. (A family caregiver is an individual who cares for a family member or friend, just like you.) Through our campaign, we hope to create awareness of what family caregivers do and how others can help.

Today’s tip comes from me; I help my parents and an aunt: Tell me to go and enjoy myself while you take over.

Why this tip is important: I want to go and enjoy myself and know it's good idea. Please encourage me to go and enjoy myself while you take over. Your encouragement releases the weight of worries that seem to live on my shoulders. I don't mean to worry and I prefer not to. When you understand that I do, you can lift the worries simply by smiling and assuring me that my idea to enjoy myself is a good one. When you nudge me to have fun, I believe in your ability to take over.

(Have an idea you’d like us to include? Email your idea to Denise and include an explanation of why your tip is so important.

Oh my goodness, this is an unbelievable gift and one of the most difficult for me to accept from others. When someone stands in for me I feel loved, visible and nurtured. Tell me to go! Sublime! Delicious! Humbling!
