29 Ways to Show the Love: Attend the Caree's Doctor's Appointment

Waiting_Room_First_FloorEach day in February, we’ll share a way that family members and friends can help the family caregiver in their lives. (A family caregiver is an individual who cares for a family member or friend, just like you.) Through our campaign, we hope to create awareness of what family caregivers do and how others can help.

Today’s tip comes from me and I care for my parents: Accompany the family caregiver and caree to the caree's doctor's appointment.

Why this tip is so important: When you join us for a doctor's appointment, you'll have a greater respect for what it takes to get out of the house, to sit and wait, to interact with the physician and his or her staff. You'll better understand the disease process and the current concerns as well as how important an advocate (and we are advocates) is within the health care system. And, if you really want to help, take notes for us during the appointment. We do our best to absorb all the information but you'll quickly see how much detail is involved. Your notes ensure we have all the information we need.
