29 Ways to Show the Love: Give the Gift of a Handyman

ToolsEach day in February, we’ll share a way that family members and friends can help the family caregiver in their lives. (A family caregiver is an individual who cares for a family member or friend, just like you.) Through our campaign, we hope to create awareness of what family caregivers do and how others can help.

Today’s tip comes from Frogger (@frogger16), who cares for her husband: Give the gift of a handyman.

Why this tip is so important: Caregiving can be as tough on a  house as it is on a person. Wheelchairs knick walls, the constant traffic of in-home help wears on the carpet. And, because our energy goes toward caring for our family member, caring for the house becomes something we just can't do. "This could be a paid service, a volunteer or group from a church, a friend or family member who's able and has particular skills," explains Frogger. "Things go wrong around the house! The faucet leaks, the sink drains slow or gets clogged, light bulbs
burn out, furnace filters need changing, toilet runs, window coverings/blinds need attention, a smoke alarm battery needs to be replaced. The list goes on and is often ignored cause we just can't physically climb up a ladder or crawl under the sink." When you bring your handiness into our house, you make our home sing.
