A Ballad and Muse

A Ballad and Muse

Today I had the honor and privilege to share my caregiving story along with five other beautiful souls. I have been emboldened by the courage and words that these heroes have shared. Together we came with a purpose to help and to heal others. With our voices we shouted in unison the story of our struggles and triumphs. To be a caregiver is a blessing. All to often however we become ensnared by a curse. We curse ourselves for our shortcomings and misgivings. Yet, if we slow down and pause and listen to the pain that others share we to can connect and share the burden. When we shift attention from ourselves to the bigger context; expanding from the tree tops waving in the breeze to the branches that connect us to our roots. We share this earth. We share this sun.

It is a brave thing to speak truth. To speak with authenticity. Tami, I was there with you in the anger. I wanted to break the plate with you. Carolyn, your heart matched mine in the latest hours of night. So tired, so weary, yet so strong. Lisa, a simple modesty has been exemplified. When I feel like giving up your commitment to caring and supporting others guides me. Abby, fairydust and magic spells have me well enchanted. I am in tears from your story of love and lessons shared. Colleen, with your insight and admonition I have been gifted a soul of grace and truth. Far beyond the days entrenched we are called back again. The gifts we share offer hope and serenity in trying times.

Thank you for your time.

A song comes to mind.

"Shake up your bones shake up your feet
I'm saying open up
And let the rain come flooding in
Wash out this tired notion
That the best is yet to come
But while you're dancing on the ground
Don't think of when you're gone
Love love what more is there
We need the light of love in here
Don't beat your head
Dry your eyes
Let the love in there
There are bad times
But that's ok
Just look for love in it"

Andrew, I was so deeply touched by each of you! The performance was beautiful and so very real, not an act at all! Thank you for sharing from your soul. I now have a greater, deeper love for each of you. And again, thank you!

Andrew, this is a beautifully moving post about the play. It was truly a privilege to participate with everyone who so openly shared part of their caregiving story.
