A Cheat Sheet: A Neighbor Asks You to Shovel His Driveway Because You're Home All Day Anyway

Denise
shoveling-17328_640It's 7 a.m. and you're out shoveling. You shovel now because your caree is snoring loudly and sleeping comfortably. In an hour, this won't be true.

As you clear the last bit of snow, your neighbor appears out of nowhere. "Could you also shovel my driveway," he asks. "You're home all day anyway while I'm at work."

And, then he turns away before you can answer, leaving one last comment with a wave of the hand, "Thanks so much! You're a great neighbor."

There you stand, shovel in hand, stunned.

What to do?

A Cheat Sheet:
A Neighbor Asks You to Shovel His Driveway Because You're Home All Day Anyway

1. Because you've got the time and you need the work-out, you shovel your neighbor's driveway.

2. After shoveling, you head back into the house and into your full day of caregiving.

3. You decide to let go of what happened this morning and manage the situation tomorrow. You'll focus on giving yourself and your caree a good day.

4. After sleeping on the situation, you decide on your best course of action.

5. At 6:45 a.m., you head over to your neighbor's house.

6. When he answers the door, you explain why you're at his door so early. "I'm not sure if you're aware but I care for my sister, who was diagnosed with cancer last year. I'm home all day because I couldn't keep my job and care for her. I just couldn't afford to hire help so that I could go to work. She wakes up 8 and then my day is full because of her care needs until she goes to bed at 10."

7. You continue: "Money is tight for us right now. I'm always looking for ways to bring in extra money while sticking close to home. I'd be happy to shovel your driveway. The charge going forward is $30."

8. You finish: "Here's my phone number. If you'd like me to shovel, please give me a call. I'd love the chance to make some extra money."

9. And, then you smile and head back home.

10. Once home, you realize you have an opportunity to make money and get exercise at the same time. You create a flyer which you bring to the other neighbors advertising your new snow-shoveling and grass-cutting business.

Maybe not make up flyers though. Helping out now and then is great but committing to helping others is a whole other thing.\r\nI'm enjoying these 'cheatsheets' thoroughly. Why is this section called 'cheatsheets'?

Invest in a snow blower with your earnings and you can expand your business :)

Oh gosh - what a choice! If I were bold (which I am not) I would say I would be happy to for a charge :) #7 :)
