A Ribbon for You

A Ribbon for You

910898-Legislative-Chambers-Nebraska-State-Capitol-Lincoln_tWe are about to dip into another month and already my pocket calender is getting full. It always starts out with a few scattered events that occur monthly and I rejoice in all the free time it looks like I'll have. But then as we get closer and closer to the new month, I suddenly discover there's hardly a day left that doesn't have some required activity--written in pencil, by the way.

I am rather looking forward to one event at the beginning of November though. I've attended before, but have missed a couple of years. It's the governor's signing of the proclamation for November being National Caregiver Awareness Month. We not only get our picture taken with the governor in the big legislative chamber, but then we go out and tie awareness ribbons on a tree on the Capitol grounds, and then comes the real fun part. We head for the Governor's Mansion and are treated to a free luncheon there!

To enjoy a fancy luncheon (without my caregivee) is just such a treat. Even though the parking is terrible and some years I've fought snow and slippery sidewalks and streets, there is always a good-sized group of senators, professionals, and caregivers who make it to the mansion.

The thing that keeps me coming back is just the feeling of recognition. It's great to be recognized and appreciated. I hope all my caregiver friends can experience something next month that makes you feel special. No matter where you live, I'll be thinking of you and praying for you when I tie my ribbon on that day--November 5th in Lincoln, Nebraska. ~an aware caregiver
