Today, Wear Green to be Seen to Win!

WearGreen_4.15.16It's that time again when we take out our green to show the world we care. Join us today when we wear green to be seen. It's our third annual event to bring awareness to the family caregiver experience.

Use your green as a conversation starter. If you see a colleague or stranger or co-worker wearing green today, strike up a conversation. “We’re both wearing green today,” you can say. “I’m wearing green because I care for my (insert your relationship to your caree) and am creating awareness about the caregiving experience. How about you?”

Maybe they’re wearing green because they just love the color. Or, maybe, they, too, care for a family member.

Our event can connect you to family caregivers in your community and online. Be sure to tell us about your experiences and share your photos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; use #caregreen as your hashtag. If you connect with a stranger wearing green who turns out to be a family caregiver, take a photo. And, we love selfies so be sure to share one. Please feel free to share about your experiences in our comments section, below. Members of can share photos of their green in our Wear Green Forum.

When you share a comment, below, or a photo in our Wear Green Forum, you'll be entered into a chance to win:

On April 15, we hope to:

  • Help you start a conversation about your caregiving experience.

  • Connect you with other family caregivers.

  • Help you share support with other family caregivers.

  • Lessen the loneliness of the caregiving experience.

I selected the color green for a few reasons. Hopefully, we’ll be enjoying spring green today! I also hope you already have green in your closet. Most important, I chose green because of Donna Baldwin, a 1999 winner of our Caregiver of the Year contest. Before Donna cared for her mom, she had plastic plants in her home; she couldn’t keep a plant alive. As she cared for her mom, she developed a green thumb, eventually replacing most of her plastic plants for live ones. Caregiving can be such a difficult situation. It also can be an experience that fosters growth. Let’s be sure to talk about that, too, today.

I look forward to seeing you in green on Friday!
