Caregivingliving: Like an Ocean

0
This care giving journey is like an ocean.

It has been quiet for a while now, but like the ocean things change unexpectedly and you learn to brace yourself to stay afloat and navigate to calmer waters. I had to change my adult daycare center. There expansion was my rocky waters. The influx of a large amount of new clients and the increased stimuli proved to be too much for my guy. Not only did he walk out of the door without knowledge of his assistant, he became confused and unable to process all the changes. I hated to say goodbye but him getting out the door was scary. He is unable to give an accurate address and this could have been tragic.

We parted on good terms and I am truly thankful for the care given to him. And so we are now navigating new waters -- a memory based program that is small in number and geared toward his challenge. We set sail again.

Caregivingliving, never a dull moment.

Kimmy, this might help. Lift your sail, put back to sea, brave another cruise.\n\nI feel the winds of God today; today my sail I lift,\nThough heavy, oft with drenching spray, and torn with many a rift;\nIf hope but light the water’s crest, and Christ my bark will use,\nI’ll seek the seas at His behest, and brave another cruise.\n\nIt is the wind of God that dries my vain regretful tears,\nUntil with braver thoughts shall rise the purer, brighter years;\nIf cast on shores of selfish ease or pleasure I should be;\nLord, let me feel Thy freshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea.\n\nIf ever I forget Thy love and how that love was shown,\nLift high the blood red flag above; it bears Thy name alone.\nGreat pilot of my onward way, Thou wilt not let me drift;\nI feel the winds of God today, today my sail I lift.
