Ever Wonder, What If...?

rail-418923_640What if we the caregivers, all of us as a group, refused to vote for anyone -- whether they're running for POTUS, or village dogcatcher -- unless they make us a priority, and addressing the caregiving crisis  a part of their platform?

What if we flatly refused to cooperate with a healthcare system which doesn't help us or our carees, which in fact actively, deliberately, does things to hurt, frustrate, and make everything way more difficult than it needs to be. All so they can make more money.

What if we told those buttinski friends, family, and perfect strangers, "Since you have such wonderful ideas, and obviously plenty of time, why don't YOU take over for a while? And let me know how that works out, okay? I'll be in Cancun."

What if we told our families -- carees included! -- that anything tossed into the laundry hamper inside-out will be washed, dried, and returned to you the same way. Items left in pockets automatically become my property. No exceptions. And, no, I'm not making whatever insanely complex and expensive dish you just saw on Chef Dinglehoffers TV show. I'm fixing tuna casserole. If you're hungry, you'll eat that. If you just gotta have something else, give me the money and I'll order takeout. I'll even give you your change back.

Also, no, I will not take you to a nail salon to get dragon-lady acrylic nails. Not when I'm the one who'll be scraping filth out from under them every day. No, I won't buy you booze, or cigarettes, or lotto tickets.

What if, once in a while, we told the whole damn world, For the next (fill in the blank -- hour, day, week. Ten minutes!), I am OFF DUTY. Unless the house is on fire or someone's bleeding, Do. Not. Disturb. Me.

And what if we made it stick?

Just wondering...
