Families of Family Caregivers: Give a Break!

Denise

We'd love for you to help your family member attend our First Annual National Caregiving Conference. To help you make that happen, we've put a plan in place you can follow. And, when you give the gift of a break at our National Caregiving Conference, you'll be entered into a contest to make your family member's  break that much better. If you win, your family member will win dinner on us on Saturday, December 3.

Here's how to give your family member who cares the gift of a break at our First Annual National Caregiving Conference:

  1. Contact other family members and friends who can help you plan and organize the break. Our conference agenda includes intensives on Friday afternoon, a full day of events on Saturday and sight-seeing or shopping on Sunday. In addition, we're having a Dine-Around on Saturday evening; we'll break up into small groups and enjoy dinner at various local restaurants. If you win our contest, we'll pay for your family member's dinner at the restaurant of their choice.

  2. Contact our Respite Care Partners to learn about hiring a home health aide, companion sitter or registered nurse who can provide care in your family member's absence. You also can contact your local Area Agency on Aging to find out about any help available to give your family member a break.

  3. Register your caregiving family member for our conference.

  4. If necessary, make a hotel reservation. To reserve a guest room for December 2 and/or December 3 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare, please call the Marriott at 773-693-4444. Ask for the National Caregiving Conference special room rate of $119 per night. Our special group room rate expires on November 11. The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from O’Hare. Daily hotel parking for Friday and Saturday is $3; overnight parking is $9. (If you will drive your family member to our conference, stick around and lend a hand. We're looking for great volunteers for our conference.)

  5. Present your caregiving family member with the gift of a break at our National Caregiving Conference. Be sure to make a video of the gift-giving moment and share that moment on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). Use this hashtag: #ncc16gift. When you share on social media and use our hashtag (#ncc16gift), your family member will be entered into a chance to win dinner on us on Saturday, December 3. You also can mention me (@caregiving) in your tweet.

  6. Share your video on or before November 11.

  7. We'll announce a winner on November 12. When you win, your caregiving family member will enjoy dinner on us on December 3.

Thanks so much for giving the gift of a break! Your gift will make a difference in the life of your family member who cares that will last far beyond our conference weekend.
