Families of Family Caregivers: Give a Break!

Denise
Does your family member (like your sibling or parent) provide care for a family member with a chronic illness, disability or disease?

We'd love for you to help your family member attend our Second Annual National Caregiving Conference. To help you make that happen, we've put a plan in place you can follow. And, when you give the gift of a break at our National Caregiving Conference, you'll be entered into a contest to make your family member's break that much better. If you win, your family member will win dinner on us on Saturday, November 11.

Here's how to give your family member who cares the gift of a break at our First Annual National Caregiving Conference:

  1. Contact other family members and friends who can help you plan and organize the break. Our conference agenda includes a full day of workshops on Friday and a full day of events on Saturday. In addition, we're having a Dine-Around on Saturday evening; we'll break up into small groups and enjoy dinner at various local restaurants. If you win our contest, we'll pay for your family member's dinner at the restaurant of their choice. We'll also cover the costs of their transportation to dinner and then back to the hotel.

  2. Contact our Respite Care Partners to learn about hiring a home health aide, companion sitter or registered nurse who can provide care in your family member's absence. Local organizations may offer help to offset the costs of respite care. Our list of respite resources helps you get started.

  3. Register your caregiving family member for our conference. (Our early-bird registration expires on August 31.)

  4. If necessary, make a hotel reservation. To reserve a guest room for November 9, 10 and/or 11 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare, please call the Marriott at 773-693-4444. Ask for the National Caregiving Conference special room rate of $119 per night. Our special group room rate expires at 6 p.m. ET on October 20, 2017. The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from O’Hare. Daily hotel parking for Friday and Saturday is $3; overnight parking is $9. (If you will drive your family member to our conference, stick around and lend a hand. We're looking for great volunteers for our conference.)

  5. Present your caregiving family member with the gift of a break at our National Caregiving Conference. Be sure to make a video of the gift-giving moment and share that moment on social media (Twitter or Facebook). Use this hashtag: #ncc17gift. When you share on social media and use our hashtag (#ncc17gift), your family member will be entered into a chance to win dinner on us on Saturday, November 11. You also can mention me (@caregiving) in your tweet and on Facebook (denise.brown1) in your post.

  6. When you share your video on or before September 8, you'll be entered into a chance to win a dinner for your family member at our conference.

  7. We'll announce a winner on September 9. When you win, your caregiving family member will enjoy dinner on us on November 11.

Thanks so much for giving the gift of a break! Your gift will make a difference in the life of your family member who cares that will last far beyond our conference weekend.
