After_Caregiving_End_Cover_300About 15 years ago, I sat in a Chicago restaurant with a friend who had written a book for family caregivers. Her publisher had asked her to brainstorm ideas for her next book so she asked me for suggestions.

I offered this one: Why not write a book to help adjust to life after caregiving ends?

As soon as those words left my lips, I thought: Ohhhhhh… I just gave her a great idea that I wish I had given to myself.

My friend, though, discounted my idea. I can’t remember her reason but she immediately discarded the premise of a book for former family caregivers (or Godspeed Caregivers, as I call them). I do remember feeling astounded that she didn’t see the gift I just gave her.

Fast forward to March 2013, when The New York Times featured the stories of previous members of Caregiving.com and current members of AfterGiving.com.  The two-part series ultimately led to the book I wrote last year: After Caregiving Ends, A Guide to Beginning Again. (In the spring, we merged AfterGiving.com into Caregiving.com.)

After Caregiving Ends guides you as you cope with two losses–the loss of your caregiving role and the loss of your family member or friend. The book will accompany you as you cope with grief and the transition into a life after caregiving ends. Organized into seven sections, After Caregiving Ends, A Guide to Beginning Again features practical tips, helpful insights and comforting perspectives of former family caregivers adjusting to life after caregiving.

Today and through Friday, you can download the Kindle version of After Caregiving Ends, A Guide to Beginning Again for free.

Regardless of where you are in your caregiving journey, you’ll want to have this book handy.
