Heat Advisory (a.k.a. brain lock life lock ) :)

I don't know why I like this picture but it's over 100 degrees in the shade here so I thought we might pool suggestions to keep cool emotionally and physically. For the elderly, of course, water, water, water. And I know there are people to credit but my brain is on lock mode. Go figure. I was in the cell phone store backing up my phone, met another caregiver who showed me how to lock my phone and my computer technician is more than that. He's a friend as well who had some dealing with heat tips for me, like open the doors, make those old-fashioned popsicles in ice trays.

I put my toes and feet in a pool, hence cooling my whole body off. Fans (the literal kind as well as the people who cheer us on :) ).  My acupuncturist has said it's important to drink room temperature water so your body does not overcompensate by heating itself up.

Mom handed me a cool wash cloth. Now that's a segue to 'No One Talks About The Poop.' Ugh the wash cloth smelled like poop. Ugh! I didn't know how to explain to Mom why I was going to get a new one as she kept saying, "It's clean. Why does it smell bad?" (I didn't say anything but she's aware.) Oh, my.

I ended up saying I don't know and I don't care. I need to cool down and talked to her about how I had fainted as a child to divert her mind to a memory. Didn't work. Oh, well.

What else... Dad just suggested we drive around with the AC on. Didn't work but maybe if her daughter says so we'll go get an ice cream! Sit still. I was just on the floor. Do laundry in the a.m. Swim. Anyone else????

Ooohh... Dad got Mom to go on a drive with him in AC car and asked me to keep my cell phone on if I go swimming so I can stay safe because no one will be here. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh~ Daddy's back!

I know my brain gets in the lock mode like on cell phones sometimes when I overload myself like, Okay, I can't write a book too because it's already been done and I can't do the gift thing that was done. So let's try and reboot or unlock our brains to accept the new friendships we've formed and savour the ones we already have!

With that said I'm gonna go put my feet in the pool. And please reply with tips to keep us our brains and bodies cool. Oh, I know what I wanted to say, my brain gets in Fight or Flight Lock and I want to retrain it to accept positives. When I stress my brain locks down and does hiccups such as forgets or a couple hours go by hence the need to decompress and have a good hair cut and a scalp massage or drive in that air conditioned car. Whatever helps us be there first for ourselves, then for others.

Always, il :) Now stay cool :)

Guys thank you for all the posts! And EJ great idea! I drink water with a capful of Raw Vinegar for get this . . ear wax but I didn't think for heat. And a little coffee actually will heat your body up to the outside temp and darciejane yah the washcloth yuck!\r\nGlad to be back!\r\nil

Ew, sorry to hear about that stinky washcloth. \r\n\r\nHere in the east it is not quite so bad by comparison. But with a mother who is ALWAYS COLD no matter what, climate control in the apartment is hard for the rest of us.....

Wet a washcloth and place it in the freezer for at least a couple of hours. Then wear the washcloth on top of your head, beneath a hat. (You can also drape a cloth around your neck.)\r\n\r\nIf you're sweating a lot, add electrolytes to your water. I drink Gatorade when I do yard work, but before Gatorade was invented farmers drank switchel. Here's a standard recipe:\r\n1 gal. water\r\n2 c. sugar\r\n1 c. molasses (preferably Blackstrap, which has more potassium)\r\n1 c. vinegar\r\n1 tsp. ginger

I'm in Chico, so it wouldn't do you any good to switch with me. It was 90 when I got home last night at 9:45 p.m. I stay indoors for the most part. But, we have great AC in our house. We went swimming today and that was really nice too. All of you ideas were good @il ... go to the mall or Starbucks, maybe?

in the 90's here in NJ---nothing like you are experiencing in Sacramento Richard or where you are il. For me, I have to be careful not to overdo my to do list.
