It Went Well - I Think

medical-563427_640The appointment went really well in that the doctor could not have been more upbeat and optimistic and friendly, and my mom left the office feeling happy and relieved. And so did I! I hope I'm not missing too much. The doctor told Mom, "I have good news for you. You did really well on your tests." And then she talked about all the areas Mom did well in, like attention and motor control. Then she said the one area of difficulty was short-term memory, BUT she noticed that when Mom had the opportunity to repeat something (or have something repeated?), she was able to learn it, which is not typical of someone with Alzheimer's. So she actually did use the "A" word. :-) The diagnosis remains Mild Cognitive Impairment, and she just wants to repeat the testing in a year.

I asked if there was a written report I could look at, and she handed me a several-page document. I didn't have time to read it carefully and digest it, but I did see a sentence that said one test suggested dementia, something like that. I wasn't able to ask about the significance of that test and that word. The doctor just advised Mom to make an effort to repeat things she wanted to learn and use lists to help her remember things. Yeah, yeah. I see changes in more than memory - I see that she has more and more trouble keeping track of time and organizing herself. So those results don't address all that I see. But I'm not sure it matters.

Mainly, I am very grateful that we both left the appointment feeling good!

And speaking of feeling good, watch "Uptown Funk" if you haven't seen it already! I can't get enough of it. I think it's the new "Happy."
